Research Proposal

The TV media plays an important role in today's society. People receive valuable information by watching TV but we should note that it has great influence at the same time. In the past, we have seen innocent people who were perceived as suspects in crime reporting. If we do not take measure, the TV media has possibilities to produce further "media victims". This paper focuses on the importance of objective attitude in criminal reporting by TV media. That is because we should not repeat the mistakes caused by the subjective reporting. In criminal reporting, the TV media should tell the truth in an objective manner not to produce "media victims", innocent people who are perceived as suspects. This paper explores the causes of media crimes and proposes possible ways to prevent further victims from the perspectives of the TV, the public and the police.
Kono' book accuses the media from the victim's point of view(2004). Chibnall's book analyzes crime reporting in the Britain press(1977). Joel's book examines how the public talk about new crimes and new victims(1999). Doyle's book examines crime and policing in front of the television camera(2003). These sources seem to validate the thesis of my paper.
